Yoga originated in India over 2,000 years ago and is a spiritual science of self realisation.
The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit ‘yuj’ – meaning to yoke or bind and is often interpreted as meaning “union” – of mind and body and breath; the masculine and feminine energies; the individual consciousness or soul with the universal consciousness or Spirit.
Many people think that yoga is merely ‘stretching’ or making complicated pretzel shapes but this is only one aspect, the outer form that looks good on Instagram!
So it is both a physical and spiritual practice that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost physical and mental well being.
